Privacy Policy

Last updated: September 26, 2026

Ninan (“the app” or “we”) values your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what information we may collect, use, store, share, and protect when you visit our website or download, register for, sign in to, or use Ninan, and how you can manage that information.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not track you across apps or websites for third-party advertising purposes. We process data only to the extent necessary to provide product features, keep the service secure, meet legal obligations, and improve the service.

1. Scope

This policy applies to Ninan’s iOS app, keyboard extension, Android app, Mac and Windows desktop apps, official website, and the cloud services related to these products. Third-party services such as the App Store, Apple accounts, and payments have their own privacy policies; this policy does not replace those third parties’ notices.

2. Data Controller and Contact

Ninan is provided by Taiyou Media. If you have any questions about privacy, data access, deletion, export, or withdrawing consent, you can contact us at hello@ninan.ai. To protect your account, we may need to verify your identity before handling an access, deletion, or export request.

3. How We Collect Information

We collect information in three main ways: information you provide directly, information generated when you use features, and information provided by your device or by system permissions after you grant them. We do not read system-protected data such as the microphone, location, or calendar without your authorization.

4. Types of Information We May Collect

Account and sign-in information: When you sign in with Sign in with Apple, Apple may provide us with a unique user identifier, an email address, a hidden email relay address, a nickname, or the name information given at first authorization. We also store session tokens, sign-in status, and account-related settings.

Content you enter or upload: This includes voice, text, rewrite requests, questions and answers, images, files, web links, knowledge base material, personal memory, skills, soul settings, your personal dictionary, snippets, clipboard content you actively use, and other information you choose to submit to Ninan for processing.

Context information: When you turn on the relevant features, we may process context such as location, calendar events, photo or file content, the clipboard, the current input scenario, and the answer preferences you set in the app, in order to generate results that better fit the current situation.

Usage and diagnostic information: This includes the app version, device model, system version, language and region, network request status, error logs, crash information, feature usage records, character counts or usage statistics, quota, subscription status, and security and risk-control logs, as well as the setup status of the keyboard and permissions (for example, whether the Ninan keyboard has been added, whether “Allow Full Access” is on, whether microphone and notification permissions have been granted, and which step of onboarding you have reached). To tell apart the devices you are signed in on, the app generates a random device identifier (it does not read the hardware serial number and does not request additional permissions) and sends it with requests together with the device name. It is used only to determine “one device at a time” on the free plan and for cross-device history sync.

Payment and subscription information: If you purchase Pro or other paid features, transactions, renewals, cancellations, and refunds are handled mainly by Apple. We may receive the subscription status, product identifier, expiration date, and entitlement information, but we do not have access to your bank card number or Apple ID payment credentials.

5. How Each Permission Is Used

Microphone: Used for voice input, voice rewriting, and Say It. Audio is sent to Ninan’s servers for recognition and tidying. We do not use the microphone for purposes unrelated to voice features. A copy of the recording used for each recognition is kept on your device and is deleted together with the corresponding history entry; it is not uploaded for storage, and you can clear all recordings at any time on the History page.

Photos, files, and knowledge base: Processed only when you actively choose to upload, add, or reference them, for recognition, parsing, retrieval, summarization, or question answering.

Clipboard: Read only when you actively enable or trigger the relevant feature, to use what you have just copied as context or input material. Snippets and your personal dictionary are stored preferentially on your device or in your account data, to make input more efficient.

Location: Used only when you have granted permission and turned on location context, to answer questions about places, weather, routes, or nearby information. We try to use the lowest precision that the feature requires.

Calendar: Recent events are read only when you have granted permission and turned on calendar context, to help you understand, organize, or create calendar-related content.

Notifications: Used to send necessary reminders, feature tips, or service status notices. You can turn them off at any time in system settings.

Keyboard Full Access: Third-party keyboards on iOS may need Full Access when they make network requests, sync across apps, or work together with the main app. Once it is on, Ninan processes the data you actively submit to voice, rewriting, question-answering, and personalization features in accordance with this policy.

Screen recording (Mac and Windows desktop apps): Used only when you turn on “Automatically capture app context” in the desktop app’s settings. When it is on, using Say It captures an image of your current foreground window and sends it with that request as background reference, to help Ninan understand what you are looking at. You can turn it off at any time in settings; once it is off, nothing is captured or sent. This setting is on by default in the desktop apps.

Android permission list: The system permissions the Android app requests, and what they are used for, are listed below. Apart from network access, each permission is requested through a system prompt the first time you use the corresponding feature; declining does not affect basic features such as Pinyin typing.

  • Network (INTERNET): sends voice and text to Ninan’s servers for recognition and generation, and syncs account data.
  • Microphone (RECORD_AUDIO): dictation, voice rewriting, Say It, and voice conversation. Recording starts only after you tap the microphone, and stops when you tap again or the keyboard goes to the background.
  • Photos (READ_MEDIA_IMAGES; READ_EXTERNAL_STORAGE on Android 12 and earlier): lets you choose an image as reference for a question when you tap “Attach image”.
  • Location (ACCESS_COARSE_LOCATION / ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION): after you turn on “Location context” in settings, your current location is attached when you ask a question. Off by default.
  • Calendar (READ_CALENDAR / WRITE_CALENDAR): after you turn on “Calendar context”, recent events are read; the “Scheduling” skill can create calendar events after you confirm. Off by default.
  • Install apps (REQUEST_INSTALL_PACKAGES): in the version distributed from the official website, downloads and installs the new version’s package after an in-app update check.

6. How We Use Information

  • To provide speech recognition, text generation, translation, summarization, rewriting, question answering, knowledge base retrieval, and input suggestions.
  • To sync your memory, skills, soul settings, knowledge base, personal dictionary, snippets, and history. Cross-device sync of history is a Pro feature; when it is on, your text history syncs between the devices you are signed in on, and recordings are not synced.
  • To handle account sign-in, session verification, quota calculation, recognition of subscription entitlements, risk control, and abuse prevention.
  • To fix errors, analyze crashes, keep the service stable, improve performance, and improve the product experience.
  • To handle customer support, feedback, deletion, export, disputes, compliance audits, and legal requirements.
  • When you have not finished setup or have not started using the app, to remind you to finish setup and introduce how to use it, through app push notifications, SMS, or email. You can turn off notifications in system settings, or contact us to stop receiving these reminders.

7. Consent and Withdrawing Consent

When you first sign in or use certain features, you may need to read and agree to this Privacy Policy and the Terms of Service. Before you first use features that send content to our servers, such as voice input, voice rewriting, and question answering, we will separately and clearly explain what data will be sent, to whom, and for what purpose, and will send it only after you confirm your consent. For system permissions such as microphone, location, calendar, photos, and notifications, you can withdraw authorization in iOS or macOS system settings. After you withdraw consent, the corresponding feature may no longer be available, but this does not affect processing already completed on a lawful basis before the withdrawal.

8. Third-Party Services and Data Processing

To deliver the core features, content such as your voice and text is sent to Ninan’s servers for processing. To complete the processing and keep the service running, we engage necessary technical service providers (including AI service providers) to assist; the data involved is limited to what is necessary to complete the corresponding feature. We require these processors by agreement to process data only on our instructions, not to use it for their own purposes, and to apply protection no weaker than this policy.

Third-party SDKs embedded in the client apps:

SDK name Provider Platform Purpose Information that may be collected Privacy policy
Alipay SDK Alipay (China) Network Technology Co., Ltd. Android app Opens Alipay to complete payment when you purchase a Pro subscription Information required for payment risk control, such as device identifiers and network status, as disclosed by Alipay View

The iOS, Mac, and Windows apps do not embed the SDK above. Payment and accounts on Apple platforms are provided by Apple; Alipay payments on Mac and Windows are completed through a web page in the browser, with no SDK embedded in the client. Apart from the table above, Ninan’s client apps do not integrate any third-party SDKs for advertising, analytics, or push notifications.

9. Data Sharing and Disclosure

  • When you actively request a feature, we share the necessary data with the service providers needed to complete that request.
  • For subscriptions, refunds, transaction verification, or entitlement recognition, we exchange the necessary information with Apple or payment-related services.
  • We disclose information when required by laws and regulations, court orders, or regulatory requirements, or when necessary to protect users, the public, or the security of the service.
  • In a merger, acquisition, reorganization, or asset transfer, information may be transferred as part of the business assets, but the recipient must continue to protect your information.

10. Retention and Deletion

We retain data only for as long as needed to fulfill the purposes described in this policy, meet legal obligations, resolve disputes, maintain security, and enforce agreements. You can delete history, knowledge base items, memory, skills, and other content in the app. You can also delete your account yourself under “Me → Delete account”; we will delete your account and the data associated with it (including dictation history, memory, skills, souls, dictionary, snippets, device identifiers and device names, and subscription and invite records). After deletion is complete, residual copies in backups, logs, and audit records are cleared within a reasonable period, unless legal, security, or dispute-handling requirements call for continued retention. When cross-device sync is on, history you delete on any device is also deleted from the server and from your other devices.

11. Security Measures

We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect information, such as encryption in transit, access control, data minimization, log auditing, and permission isolation. However, internet services cannot guarantee absolute security. If you find that your account or data is at risk, please contact us as soon as possible.

12. Cross-Border Processing

To provide the service, your information may be processed outside the country or region where you are located. We will take the measures necessary to protect data processed across borders, to the extent required by applicable law.

13. Minors

Ninan is intended for users who have full capacity for civil conduct or who use the service with the consent of a guardian. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe that a minor has provided us with personal information without a guardian’s consent, please contact us, and we will take appropriate measures after verification.

14. Your Choices and Rights

Under applicable law, you may request to access, correct, delete, or export your data, to restrict processing, or to withdraw consent. You can also manage permissions in system settings, and manage memory, skills, the knowledge base, history, the dictionary, and snippets in the app. We will handle requests within a reasonable time and explain the reason if we cannot fulfill a request.

15. Policy Updates

We may update this policy because of changes in features, law, or the service. Material changes will be announced through the website, the app, or other reasonable means. The updated policy applies from the effective date shown on this page. If you do not agree to the updated content, you should stop using the relevant services.

16. Contact Us

If you have questions about this policy or about data processing, please contact hello@ninan.ai.
